The Canadian Express Entry system is not an immigration program, rather it is a way for Canada to manage the intake of skilled worker applications, rank applicants and select those who have the required skills and experience to successfully establish themselves in Canada.
It is completely electronic processing system involving the Federal Government, Provincial Governments and Canadian Employers. Once added to the Express Entry pool, candidates will be scored according to the program’s point-based Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS), and this score will determine the candidate’s rank within the pool.
Express Entry stream can be used to apply following immigration programs:
- Federal Skilled Worker
- Federal Skilled Trades and
- Canadian Experience Class
A portion of the Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs) are streamlined through Express Entry, but candidates must be eligible under one of the three federal programs in order to enter the Express Entry pool.
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) invites the highest ranking candidates from the Express Entry pool to apply for expedited Canadian immigration on a frequent basis via official “Rounds of Invitations” and will be issued an “Invitation to Apply” (ITA). Once given an ITA, applicants have to submit their application for Canadian permanent residency.
